Patch Neighborhood Center

Location: 7925 Minnesota Ave., St. Louis, MO 63111

Need 2-3 volunteers, to teach senior citizens the basics of operating computer hardware and software. The senior citizens in the program are computer illiterate, but are eager to learn the basics. In need of volunteers who can be present on a regular basis, from 12:00 pm -2:00 pm.

Back to School Fair

Need 3 Volunteers, to help with set up, break down, and assist with children and families

Need Volunteers during the summer, to help sanitize toys, set up classrooms, create bulletin boards, clean gardens, and interact with children

Whitaker Concert Series

Location: St. Louis Place Park (St. Louis Ave & Rauschenbach)

Need 1-3 Volunteers to help with childrens’ activities, raffle, manning the crowd, etc.

NOTE: We are always looking for groups to come out to our Water Tower Hub location and help with beautification around the Hub, as well as beautification in Peace Park Garden, which is located right next door.

Other Opportunities

Peace Park Garden

  • Assist in tending to the garden beds by weeding, planting seedlings and flowers
  • Cultivating the fruit trees in the orchard
  • Help with removing debris and beautifying Peace Park
  • Basic landscaping around the Water Tower Hub
  • Helping to rebuild the Giving Shelter, which is located in the park

 

Grace Hill Settlement House Housing Project

  • Basic clean up and brush removal around 6 recently acquired buildings all located on the same block

While on site, volunteers will gain firsthand experience in low income community development and the multitude of groups it takes to enable future development of these units, including architectural plans, physical redevelopment of several properties, and a formal community plan to include beautification and use of green space for moderate to low income individuals.

  • Creating themed prop boxes for classrooms
  • Categorizing children’s books by theme
  • Organizing and labeling teacher’s storage closet
  • Creating back to school bulletins and door displays

 

Senior Services

Patch

  • Assist with deliveries from St. Louis Area Food Bank

 

Women’s Business Center

Workshops

  • Passing out and collecting evaluations
  • Monitoring the front door of the facility to guide guests into the event space

Graduations 

  • Serving food to attendees
  • Working the registration table
  • Setting up and breaking down the event décor
  • Ushering to various sections of the event space

 

Community Events

Whitaker Summer Concert Series (Thursday Evenings, June 9th-July 21st)

  • Imagination Station Attendants-Assist children with craft activities, manage lines for face painters and balloon twisters, hand out candy to kids, assist with tear down of tables, tents and chairs and load into truck and van
  • Hosts-Assist at the Information Table, welcome crowd to concert, collect raffle sign ups, distribute raffle prizes/t-shirts, assist with tear down of tables, tents, and chairs and load into truck and van
  • Survey Team-Hand out community development surveys and GH program materials, assist with tear down of tables, tents, and chairs and load into truck and van
  • Trash Crew-Walk around park on a consistent basis and pick up trash, assist with crowd control and food truck vendor situations, assist with tear down of tables, tents, and chairs and load into truck and van
  • Event Support-Distribute concert postcards and collect raffle sign ups by walking through crowd, refill water for volunteers, assist with crowd control, assist with tear down of tables, tents, and chairs and load into truck and van
  • Event Set Up-Assist with setting up event, unload truck and van, put up tents, folding tables, chairs, signage and street barricades
  • Event Take Down-Assist with taking down event, take down tents, folding tables, chairs, signage and load into truck and van

Strong Women and Families Resource Fair (August 13th)

  • Assist with greeting participants
  • Assist with sign in/registration
  • Direct participants to activities
  • Assist with set up and clean up

Those who will be working directly with children will need to have a TB test, but we will go over details for that process together.
